Seattle Art Walks: March In Review
A visual exploration of a few powerful art shows I viewed in March.
It has been way too long since I’ve done an art walk post. So here are some of the very cool and moving shows I viewed this month.
Primary Emotions exhibition by Ramona Lee at an Equinox annex building. There were multiple spaces where visitors could add their own mark to paintings created by Ramona. The works are beautiful and vibrant. Ramona is also an important part of the Artists Up Close community. She help me stream the monthly Artists Up Close events.
Fatigues by Meredith Ojala showing at Studio 103 until the end of the month. This a powerful show that examines American gun violence through an artistic lens. My video doesn’t do it justice. You have to go see it. There is also an audio component that I wasn’t able to capture.
Shared Thought: Collaborating with AI exhibition at Columbia City Gallery. This show was amazing. A group of artists experimented with using generative AI to create traditional artwork. It was very thought-provoking.
Evening of Art & Culture with Patti Warashina hosted by Pottery Northwest at the Residences at Rainier building in downtown Seattle. We were on the 40th floor with sweeping and stunning views of Mt. Rainier and the city as the sun set. And Patti’s ceramic sculptures were incredible and impressive. She shared her story of working in ceramics for 58 years and we all felt inspired.
These are three very cool people I met while out and about in Seattle. The first photo (top left) is a ceramics artist and painter who had such a beautiful spirit. Her hand-painted shoes are impressive! In the photo on the bottom left, I was struck by the cute blue doggie and asked for a photo, then I ended up having an intriguing conversation with this woman about how building personal AI systems could be a way for artists to protect their IP while also benefiting from the tech. She really blew my mind and got me thinking. Great conversation! And finally, in the photo on the bottom right, I was immediately taken by the teapot purse this person is holding — and their outfit is cute too! I love teapots!

Our next event is Women Artists and Self-Worth: Creative Lessons from Frida Kahlo on Friday, March 22nd at 7pm. You can attend in-person or online.
Great evening on Kahlo and women artists last night. Just found this on Kahlo. I feel like there is so much more with this artist. Maybe Kahlo part two? Shout out to all who attended. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/newsletter/2024-03-16/frida-kahlo-documentary-amazon-prime-video-essential-arts-arts-culture
