A Year In Review and A Look Ahead
Seasons Greetings! A special year-end message from Artists Up Close
Season's Greetings and Happy New Year! Thank you so much for subscribing to Artists Up Close and helping us create and share high-quality articles and audio recordings about artists' lives.
A Year In Review
Since March 2022, we’ve brought you 14 intimate and authentic artist stories. Dancers, writers, filmmakers, and visual artists have generously shared their struggles and triumphs, and inspired us with their perseverance. Their courage and self-belief is an example for all creatives to emulate.
Below are some highlights from 2022. And as a New Year’s gift, these articles have been unlocked so that free subscribers can read (or listen to) them until February 2, 2023. Paid subscribers will also receive a New Year’s gift: free tickets to an upcoming series of events Artists Up Close is co-hosting with a Seattle area art gallery this spring. More details coming soon.

The Year Ahead
There are so many exciting things happening at Artists Up Close in 2023. Here are just a few:
Events
I've partnered with a local gallery to present in-person artist conversations in their space. Artist Up Close paid subscribers will have an opportunity to get free admission to these events. An official announcement is coming soon.
Education
I've developed a "How To Talk To The Media" workshop as part of Artists Up Close's educational component. I want all artists to be equipped to handle media inquiries and interviews in a professional and effective manner. This workshop will become available in 2023.
More Stories
I want to send a heartfelt thank you to every subscriber who generously provided feedback about Artists Up Close. You've spoken up and we've listened. In 2023 the following improvements will be made:
We will go deeper. On select articles we will provide a "deeper dive" interview in addition to the main in-depth article.
We will go wider. We will provide more artist stories by including "short takes" (brief but intimate chats) with artists and we will continue periodic "artist walks" where we explore the local art scene in Seattle (and other cities).
What You Can Do
If you want to continue to read (and listen to) in-depth and intimate artist stories, we need you to become a paid subscriber. Our paid subscribers provide the funding that buys us time, equipment, and contractors to help us do this work.
In 2022, subscribers helped us pay for a professional Zoom recorder and lavalier mics so that we could improve the audio quality of our recordings. Paid subscribers also helped us pay for gas, internet/data, and transcription services.
We need the following:
- copyeditor
- photographer
- voiceover performer
- freelance writer
But we need additional funding to make that happen. If you believe in what we're doing, subscribe now at $40/year. That's less than $4/month if you choose the annual subscription. That costs less than a cup of coffee, something that won't last even an hour. But these powerful stories will impact your mind and spirit for a lifetime.
If you are already a subscriber, thank you. Please share these stories with your friends, family, colleagues, and social media community. A matter of fact, share this article and let them know that we've unlocked four paid articles that they can read now until February 2, 2023. And consider buying a gift subscription for a loved one.
Thank you all for your support. May 2023 bring you the joy and prosperity you deserve.
